Maki.vc first announced investments in healthtech firms Disior and Neuro Event Labs, VR/AR studio Glue, recruiting startup Sumpli, travel startup Valpas, and digital collaboration platform developer Happeo. The fund’s latest investment was in power ultrasound developer Altum Technologies.

“We’re extremely impressed by the Maki.vc team’s strong expertise. Ilkka Kivimäki contributes not only his investment experience but also his unique networks, while Pirkka Palomäki contributes his technology knowhow as well as his long experience of managing technology companies. Added to this, both founders are genuinely keen to spur seed-stage companies onwards over the long term. It is very rewarding to play a part in creating new success stories,” says Tesi’s Investment Director Tapio Passinen.

The VC firm is planning to make ten investments during its first operational year. The team is looking for promising startups in the fields of AI, machine learning, new user experiences, and new materials and processes.

Maki.vc has brought together a formidable group of partners, including Risto Siilasmaa (Chairman of Nokia), Ilkka Paananen and Mikko Kodisoja (co-founders of Supercell), and Mistletoe Venture Partners International (founded by Taizo Son). Other institutional investors include OP Financial Group and Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company.
